On June 17, Windsor Member Kevin Bespolka and Windsor Gun Club Director Nicky Szápáry along with six other cyclists will cross 12 states and four time zones on a seven-day journey as part of The Race Across America. The two men are competing with team CYCLE FOR CAMERON in loving memory of the tragic passing of Kevin and Corinne Bespolka’s 16-year-old son Cameron.

Following Cameron’s death three years ago, his family founded the Cameron Bespolka Trust, a charity set up to empower today’s youth through the love of nature. Kevin, Nicky and their teammates will embark on this major journey across the country from Oceanside, California and finish in Annapolis, Maryland, raising money to honor Cameron’s passion for nature. Funds raised will contribute to the renovation of a 17th-century cottage on a nature reserve in Staffordshire, England, to provide the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds with a permanent base for educational activities. Named “Cameron’s Cottage,” it will pay homage to his dedication to wildlife observation.

“Windsor is proud to support Kevin and Nicky as they take on this physical challenge in Cameron’s memory,” says Betsy Hanley, President of Windsor. “As sponsors of their team, we wish them the absolute best as they raise awareness and funds for the Cameron Bespolka Trust and honor the memory of such a beloved and dearly missed young man.”

Various sponsorships are available and donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. Individuals from all over the world will be able to follow the team’s race online, through bi-weekly Race Across America newsletters, race blogs and social media.  More details on CYLCE FOR CAMERON and the mission of the Cameron Bespolka Trust can be found at www.cameronbespolka.com.

“We are overwhelmed by the response we have received to participate in this race as well as to support the initiatives of the Cameron Bespolka Trust.  While nothing can come close to filling the hole left by Cameron’s tragic death, it is special that his memory as well as his passion for birds and nature carry on through the Trust’s work.  We are eagerly and nervously looking forward to the race and dipping our toes into the Atlantic at the finish,” said Kevin Bespolka.

Race Across America is one of the most respected and longest running ultra-endurance events in the world, totaling 3,089 miles and 176,000 vertical feet of non-stop 24/7 racing. In 1982, four individuals raced from the Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles to the Empire State Building in New York City, quickly captivating the public’s imagination to turn the race into what it has become today. There is no other race in the world like Race Across America, combining the distance, terrain and weather. The Race inspires everyone who has been a part of it, bringing together racers, teams, staff and fans alike.
