On Saturday, February 17, 2018 Windsor co-founder the Hon. Hilary M. Weston and Salvatore Ferragamo co-hosted the 2018 Windsor Charity Polo Cup to support families who are struggling with an Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diagnosis to help fund research to find a cure. Windsor donated a total of $280,000 in proceeds between beneficiaries, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County. Windsor is proud to announce that this year’s Charity Polo Cup raised the highest amount of charitable dollars and had the largest attendance since the event’s conception in 2012.

“Everyone here at Windsor is truly proud of the success of the event and the funds we were able to raise for these two very worthy causes,” said Betsy Hanley, president of Windsor. “We want to thank our Members, the local community and our sponsors for their overwhelming support and generosity.”

A world-class roster of international players participated in the match directed by Windsor’s director of equestrian operations, Max Secunda. New to the biennial event was international polo player and model, Ignacio “Nacho” Figueras. More than 2,000 people attended the event from around the world including Windsor Members and their visiting family and friends, local area residents, seasonal visitors, and polo enthusiasts from nearby Palm Beach.

In addition to an outstanding polo match, which is recognized as the premier high-goal charity polo match of the season in Vero Beach, the day also included a themed tailgate competition judged by J.McLaughlin. Additional festivities included a Windsor junior team demonstration, a Porsche concourse, a Specialty Retail Village, a rousing half-time performance by Vero Beach Pipe & Drums, a luxury raffle, and gourmet concession stands. Steve Weagle, chief meteorologist for the Palm Beach NBC affiliate WPTV, and a regular supporter of the biennial charity event, served as the luncheon’s emcee for the third time.

“Nearly one million Americans live with Parkinson’s disease and yet millions more family members and friends are touched by the ripple effect of a diagnosis with no current cure,” said Deborah W. Brooks, co-founder and executive vice chairman of The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. “The generous support from friends like Windsor allows the Foundation to do more in our urgent pursuit to find a cure for Parkinson’s disease and close our doors.”

The Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County is a local, independent non-profit serving community residents with disorders affecting memory and movement.
