Windsor Unveils Official Artwork by Carrie Nygren for 2020 Charity Polo Cup
Windsor is pleased to unveil the official 2020 Windsor Charity Polo Cup commemorative poster artwork, designed by seasoned artist Carrie Nygren. The bespoke piece features a striking profile of a majestic polo horse and will be auctioned off during the Windsor Charity Polo Cup, with silent bids beginning at the Players Cocktail Reception on Friday, February 14, 2020, the evening before the polo match.
Titled “Between Chukkers,” the piece draws a connection to polo terminology given its reference to the periods of play within a polo match. Striking a balance between contemporary compositions and traditional painting in Nygren’s signature style, the piece captures the horse in a perfect moment of rest while it waits for play to resume.
“This painting holds particular sentimental value to me in that it’s the very first in the series of polo paintings,” said Nygren. “I have such deep admiration for the sport of polo as well the athleticism, heart and drive the ponies have out on the field. In no other sport is there such a unique relationship between horse and rider as there is in polo. My goal is to capture the spirit of the sport, the majestic power and character of the horse, all in a moment in time.”
Hailing from Nashville and presently Wisconsin-based, Nygren is rediscovering her art after her self-characterized “in-between” years where she garnered an MFA and a 30 plus year career as a creative director, creating and producing commercials. Her affinity for making beautiful artwork depicting horses and polo captivated Windsor leading up to the 2020 Windsor Charity Polo Cup.
“We were drawn to Nygren’s ability to so eloquently capture the natural beauty of horses and the engaging, active nature of polo play throughout her works,” said Jane Smalley, Marketing Director for Windsor. “We are very impressed with her innate talent to portray these moments with such vivid detail and realness and are delighted for this selected piece to serve as our commemorative poster artwork, which we believe perfectly embodies the grace and spirit of the Windsor Charity Polo Cup.”
Carrie Nygren will attend the February event and be on hand to sign posters. She will also hold a pop-up gallery in the event’s Specialty Retail Village showcasing a selection of her works available for purchase. A percentage of all sales will also go to the event’s charities.
Co-chaired by the Hon. Hilary M. Weston and Salvatore Ferragamo, the Windsor Charity Polo Cup is recognized as the premier high-goal charity polo match of the season. Taking place on Saturday, February 15, 2020, on Windsor’s polo grounds, the event will feature a roster of top-level international players. The biennial event’s purpose is to raise money for the three local benefitting charities, which include the Boys and Girls Club of Vero Beach, the Literacy Services of Indian River County, and the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County.
