On Thursday, March 21, 2019, Windsor was honored to host tennis legend, Stan Smith, as part of the ongoing Visiting Author Series. Stan gave a private talk and signed copies of his recently published book, Some People Think I’m A Shoe. Stan is a former world number one American tennis player and two-time Grand Slam singles champion.

Hosted at Windsor’s Town Hall, the event was attended by nearly 100 Windsor members and their personal guests. Following the event, attendees enjoyed a cocktail reception and the opportunity to mingle with Stan himself. The complimentary event was sponsored by Windsor Marketing.

“We were thrilled to welcome Stan back to Windsor since his previous involvement in the community in the early 1990s when he designed our eight, beautiful Har-Tru tennis courts,” said Jane Smalley, Marketing Director for Windsor. “We have a large number of tennis enthusiasts at Windsor, so it was a delight to have Stan here regaling stories about his experience playing professional tennis and the famed collaboration with Adidas.”

Stan’s new book, Some People Think I’m A Shoe, which includes a foreword by recording artist Pharrell Williams and a contribution by sports journalist and author Richard Evans, celebrates the sneakers by showcasing global street-style photography and touching upon pop-culture references within lyrics and movies.

In the 1970s, Adidas released a pair of sneakers named after Stan that have been an international best-seller since its launch. The basic design of the shoe has remained the same since its introduction, but it has appeared in several variations and editions since.
