Golf
“We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to return to Windsor and refresh this prized golf course. We kept true to the course’s original design while enhancing the fun factor throughout.”– Robert Trent Jones, Jr.
A unique approach
Windsor’s championship 18-hole golf course was originally designed in 1991 by legendary golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Its undulating landscape and wind-shaped trees evoke the Serengeti while the nuances of the par 72 course challenge players of all levels and are appreciated more with every round played. Golfers at Windsor enjoy a no-tee-time policy.
Extensive renovation
In 2019, Robert Trent Jones Jr. returned with his team to carry out an extensive renovation of the 120-acre course that recaptured the original design intent and updated golf holes in concert with today’s game. Highlights of the renovation include replacement of grass on all greens, tees, fairways and roughs; enlargement and reorientation of tee boxes; and restoration of original hole locations and bunker shapes. In order to remain ecologically sensitive and reduce the golf club’s carbon footprint, the renovation introduced a more drought-tolerant variety of Bermuda grass, reduced areas that need to be mowed, and a new state-of-the-art irrigation system.
Greater Variety
In addition to a 400-yard driving range, players now also enjoy greater variety in length and angle of approach shots as well as additional and extended target, putting and chipping green areas for more diverse practice scenarios.
DOG FRIENDLY
The club boasts a professional golf shop and personal instruction is available from one of several golf professionals on staff. With no tee times and a dog-friendly policy, the golf club aims to offer the ultimate golfing experience to Members.
Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program
Windsor is working towards certification by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf (ACSP). The ACSP is an environmental education and certification program that helps golf courses protect the environment, preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf, promote environmental sustainability and gain recognition for their efforts. Windsor looks forward to being an ACSP designated course and to contributing to ACSP’s mission. For more information on the ACSP, visit https://auduboninternational.org.
