2018 Windsor Charity Polo Cup Returns to Vero Beach, Florida

    February 5, 2018 | Windsor Florida |

Luncheon Sold-out! Limited Grandstand and Tailgate Tickets Remaining.

Windsor is delighted to announce the return of the Windsor Charity Polo Cup, set for February 17, 2018. Held biannually at Windsor, the event promises an exciting day of high-goal polo coupled with fine dining, music and other activities in support of local and national charities.

Co-chaired by the Hon. Hilary M. Weston, co-founder and Creative Director of Windsor and former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and Salvatore Ferragamo, grandson of the esteemed Italian footwear designer and leader of his family’s expanding wine business, the Windsor Charity Polo Cup is recognized as the premier high-goal charity polo match of the season. This year, international polo star Ignacio “Nacho” Figueras has teamed up with a roster of other acclaimed players to join in the match. Hailed as one of the leading polo players on the field today, the Argentine has played across the world, from Paris to England, and now at Vero Beach. He currently serves as Captain of the Black Watch Polo team and most recently played in a charity polo match in Wellington against His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales.

Alongside the polo action, the charity event will be a family affair with festivities including tailgating, an elegant luncheon, live music, gourmet concession stands, and a specialty retail village. Attendees can also partake in a high-end raffle, enjoy a luxury car display, and more as provided by renowned event sponsors.

Official Wine Sponsor Il Borro will serve its acclaimed wines including Il Borro Pian di Nova and Il Borro Lamelle at the luncheon, in advance of the highly-anticipated polo match. The wines served at the luncheon will be paired with a menu specially-crafted by Windsor’s Executive Chef Robert Meitzer, featuring passed canapés, a beef tenderloin and crab entrée and a delectable chocolate and raspberry dessert.

The event’s coveted raffle will feature exciting prizes, including a Starburst Medallion Diamond Drop Necklace and Earrings, valued at $50,000, generously donated by official Luxury Jeweler Sponsor Maria Canale. The stunning jewelry suite will serve as the lead item and will be on display throughout the weekend, starting at the Players Reception Cocktail Party on Friday, February 16. Additional raffle prizes include Valentino and Chloe handbags donated by Holt Renfrew, Elite Airways round-trip tickets from Newark to Vero Beach, hotel and dining packages, fashion, jewelry and accessories, and children’s books and toys, to name a few.

Additional sponsors for the 2018 Windsor Charity Polo Cup include Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Audi of Melbourne, CBRE, Ingersoll-Rand, Château d’Esclans, Falasiri Oriental Rugs, J.McLaughlin, Casa Dragones, Equestrian Living and Vero Beach Magazine, among others. Best Playing Pony Sponsor PNC Financial Services Group will award the most accomplished polo pony in the tournament with the coveted embroidered blanket at the completion of the match.

Proceeds from the 2018 event will provide support to individuals and their families who are struggling with an Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s diagnosis and to help fund research to find a cure. Funds raised will be distributed equally to the national organization, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and locally to the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County. In 2016, the Windsor Charity Polo Cup raised $250,000 for Alzheimer’s charities at the local and national level.

Polo remains an important focus for the Windsor community, dating back to its founding in 1989 with the polo field being among the first amenities constructed. Today, under the direction and personal guidance of Director of Equestrian Operations Max Secunda, the equestrian program at Windsor is flourishing with 26 stables, 14 paddocks, and a jumping and dressage arena. The full-scale Equestrian Centre offers boarding, maintenance, lessons and riding for recreation, as well as a 170-yard-long multi-purpose stick and ball field and full-sized polo field for exhibition matches.

Established in 1989 by Hilary and W. Galen Weston of Toronto, Canada, Windsor was designed by renowned town planners Andrés Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk in the New Urbanism style of residential living, one that offers public and community spaces framed by timeless architecture and landscape design that celebrates its tropical and unspoiled setting. Windsor is comprised of 350 homesites in various styles including village homes, cottages and country estates, all remarkable for their signature Anglo-Caribbean architecture and gracious living.

Windsor provides homeowners privacy and seclusion combined with the finest amenities, exemplary services and sporting activities.
