Broadway Meets Opera at Windsor’s Annual Concert Benefitting the Vero Beach Opera

    March 8, 2022 | Windsor Florida |

The private residential sporting club community, Windsor Florida, held its annual opera concert featuring the talented returning duo Martin Nusspaumer as Tenor and Maria Antúnez as Mezzo-soprano. They were accompanied by pianist Jared Peroune. The concert was held on March 7 in Windsor’s Town Hall.

Windsor’s annual charitable event began with a welcoming introduction from Vero Beach Opera’s President and Executive Director, Dr. Joan Ortega-Cowan. Following introductions,  Nusspaumer and Antúnez performed a total of nine notable pieces curated specifically for the occasion. The performance featured favorites from Carmen, Samson et Dalila, The Sound of Music, West Side Story, Faust and Les Misérables, among others.

Nusspaumer comes from a Uruguayan background and has sung major roles in La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, La Battaglia di Legnano, Luisa Fernanda, Eugene Onegin, Don Giovanni, Thaïs, Nabucco and many others. Antúnez is a graduate of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program of Washington National Opera and has appeared on famous stages like the Kennedy Center and the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing.

This year’s performance also included a touching tribute to Ukraine when Nusspaumer performed “Bring Him Home” from Les Misérables, which moved the crowd.

Following the event’s closing remarks, Windsor Members were welcomed to a reception held at Windsor’s Town Hall Portico and Lawn where guests had the opportunity to engage with the opera singers and pianist.

“It was a privilege to welcome such distinguished and renowned artists to Windsor,” says Jane Smalley, Marketing Director for Windsor. “Not only was it a culturally rich and moving evening but we are honored to be able to give back to Vero Beach Opera’s scholarship fund.”

Attendees of the event were encouraged to make a donation to the Windsor Charitable Foundation in support of the Vero Beach Opera’s scholarship fund for promising young opera singers. The mission of the Vero Beach Opera is to enrich the cultural lives of its community through fully staged professional opera productions, concerts and international vocal competitions of the highest quality, which promotes an increased awareness and deeper appreciation of opera to diverse Florida audiences of all ages.
