Windsor is thrilled to celebrate the victory of its Barn Manager, Mia Bray, in the 2019 C.V. Whitney Cup, which was held at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, Florida. Bray, who is a rising female polo star and member of Team USPA, served as the only woman to play on the Pilot polo team and, alongside her male teammates, helped propel Pilot toward victory through her play in key matches of the tournament. With Pilot’s victory in the final this past Sunday, February 24, 2019, Bray became one of the few women in history to win a high-goal tournament in the U.S.
A lifelong equestrienne, Bray is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, where she was part of the university’s polo team and participated in jumping. Last year, she began an internship with the USPA Polo Development, LLC. As Barn Manager for Windsor, Bray plays an integral role in the operations of the community’s state-of-the-art Equestrian Centre, working alongside Director of Equestrian Operations and accomplished equestrian in his own right, Max Secunda.
“I am thrilled for Mia’s success and am sure there is much more to come,” said Secunda. “She is playing at the highest level of polo and at her young age exhibits the characteristics of a great player. I recommended Mia to the Pilot team because she is the sort of person you want to have around – a buoyant personality and very hardworking.”
“I moved to Florida to gain more polo opportunities,” said Bray. “The move has really proven to pay off with this experience in the high goal. I’m really enjoying this season at Windsor where I can focus on polo and share this sport with others.”
The C.V. Whitney Cup represented the first of three tournaments in the Gauntlet of Polo™. Team Pilot will move on to play in the next tournament, the USPA Gold Cup®, which kicked off yesterday, February 28, 2019, before moving on to play in the third and final tournament, the acclaimed U.S. Open Polo Championship®, beginning March 27, 2019. Bray will continue to serve as a substitute for the Pilot team throughout the Gauntlet of Polo™ and will be present during the next two tournaments.
