Windsor Hosts Ribbon Cutting and Reopening of Newly Renovated Golf Course by Robert Trent Jones, Jr.
On Saturday, January 4, 2020, Windsor held a ribbon cutting and reopening ceremony for the private club community’s newly renovated, 18-hole links-style golf course. The event was hosted by Windsor’s Director of Golf, Jeff Steele in conjunction with Bruce Charlton, President and Chief Design Officer of Robert Trent Jones II, who oversaw the renovation alongside Windsor’s Golf Course Superintendent, Jason Schoonover.
To commence the festivities, Jeff Steele welcomed everyone to the event which was relocated from the first tee to the Clubhouse Patio due to rain. Gord Nixon, Windsor Member and former President, CEO and Director of Royal Bank of Canada, congratulated the project team, gave a heartfelt thanks to Windsor’s Founders The Hon. Hilary M. Weston and Mr. Galen Weston, and presented them with a gift on behalf of the Membership.
“Galen and Hilary, this new golf course has been built to your standards and I can speak for all Members in saying that it is a great course – one of the best in Florida – and the Membership cannot thank you enough for your willingness to ensure it remained so,” commented Nixon.
Bruce Charlton also spoke on the nuances of the project and significant reinvestment in the course. He later presented Mr. and Mrs. Weston with a gift on behalf of Robert Trent Jones Jr. in the form of a signed memoir.
Mr. and Mrs. Weston cut the honorary ceremonial ribbon, declaring Windsor’s Golf Course officially reopen for play among Members. As the rain subsided, Windsor Member, professional golfer and tour champion Paul McGinley, had the honor of being the first to tee off on the new course.
Upon conclusion of the festivities, attendees were invited to the Clubhouse patio and bar for cocktails in celebration of the momentous occasion.
Windsor’s Golf Course is officially open within the community, with all 18-holes ready for play. With no tee times and pristine natural beauty, the course is a treasured and accessible amenity for all Members and their guests.
