On Saturday, February 17, 2018 Windsor co-founder the Hon. Hilary M. Weston and Salvatore Ferragamo co-hosted the 2018 Windsor Charity Polo Cup. A world-class roster of international players participated in the match directed by Windsor’s Director of Equestrian Operations, Max Secunda. New to the biennial event was International polo player and model Ignacio “Nacho” Figueras. More than 2,000 people attended the event from around the world, including Windsor Members and their visiting family and friends, local area residents, seasonal visitors to the area, and polo enthusiasts from nearby Palm Beach.

The two teams battled it out in one of the fastest and most exciting matches in the event’s history. Team Pezuñas Caliente was the winning team with a final score of 9-8. Team Pezuñas Caliente was captained by Nacho Figueras and Team Falasiri was captained by Rodrigo Andrade. Lucas Criado was awarded Most Valuable Player and the Best Playing Pony went to Doble Dové, owned by Orchard Hill polo team and played by Lucas Criado.

In addition to a world-class polo match, which is recognized as the premier high-goal charity polo match of the season in Vero Beach, the day also included a themed tailgate competition judged by J.McLaughlin. The winner of the tailgate competition and a $500 J.McLaughlin gift card was La Tabla Food & Juicery. Additionally, the day’s festivities included a Windsor junior team demonstration, a Porsche concours, a Specialty Retail Village, a half-time performance by 15 members of Vero Beach Pipe & Drums, and gourmet concession stands.

More than 800 match attendees enjoyed an elegant field-side champagne luncheon designed by Windsor’s Executive Chef Robert Meitzer featuring a selection of passed canapés, a Mustard-Crusted Beef Tenderloin with Remoulade and Louie Lump Crab-Stuffed Tomato entrée, and a delectable El Ray Chocolate Tart with Raspberry Mouse for dessert. Other event-goers enjoyed picnicking in the festive field-side tailgating area or viewed the match from grandstand seating. Steve Weagle, Chief Meteorologist for the Palm Beach NBC affiliate WPTV, and a regular supporter of the biennial charity event, served as the luncheon’s emcee for the third time.

Located alongside the polo field, the Specialty Retail Village, returning for its second year by popular demand, featured a curated selection of pop-up boutiques with products available for purchase and a portion of the proceeds donated to the event charities. Included in the Retail Village were luxury jewelry pieces from Maria Canale and Tamara Comolli; gifts, fragrances and accessories designed by India Hicks; emerging designer pieces from Michelle Farmer Collaborate; polo-inspired apparel by Stick & Ball; gifts and accessories from Belle Cose; and the new 2018 Winter Resort collection from J.McLaughlin; among others.

A lucky event participant won the featured raffle prize, the Maria Canale Starburst Medallion Diamond Drop Necklace and Earrings set valued at $50,000. Other exciting raffle prizes included Valentino and Chloe handbags donated by Holt Renfrew; Elite Airways round-trip tickets; a Costa d’Este hotel package; golf, equestrian and dining experiences; fashion, jewelry and accessories; and more.

The event proceeds support families who are struggling with an Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diagnosis and will help fund research to find a cure. Proceeds will be distributed equally to the national organization, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, and locally to the Alzheimer and Parkinson Association of Indian River County.

Upon his return from WWII, Bernard de Nonancourt, son of Marie-Louise, learned every aspect of the winemaking business from vine to cellar. This knowledge led Bernard to create the signature Laurent-Perrier style of freshness, elegance, and finesse and allowed him to create a unique range of champagnes. Laurent-Perrier is family run to this day by Berndard’s daughters, Alexandra and Stéphanie.

Windsor is pleased to add a new tradition to the 2018 Windsor Charity Polo Cup with the introduction of an Official Cocktail. Created by Windsor’s Clubhouse bar in honor of the surrounding environs, the aptly named Indian River Pink Grapefruit Margarita proudly merges ingredients from Official Cocktail Sponsors Casa Dragones and Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice Company, providing a refreshing libation for the festivities.

Founded in 2008, Casa Dragones is an independent, small batch producer with a passion for creating exceptional sipping tequilas, one bottle at a time. Each bottle is hand-signed and numbered, hallmarking their commitment to quality.

The delicious cocktail will be served during the luncheon reception for the guests’ enjoyment.

Windsor is pleased to announce that Il Borro has been named the official Wine Sponsor for the 2018 Windsor Charity Polo Cup. Il Borro will serve their acclaimed wines including Il Borro Pian Di Nova and Il Borro Lamelle at the luncheon, which begins at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, in advance of the highly-anticipated polo match.

Purchased in 1993, Salvatore Ferragamo, grandson of esteemed Italian footwear designer, currently serves as President of Il Borro, a winery located in the Tuscan region of Italy. Il Borro, situated on a 1,700-acre medieval village, grows both Italian and international varietals to produce wines with distinct flavors. Il Borro Pian Di Nova is a full-bodied wine marked by subtlety and softness that is generous on the palate, while Il Borro Lamelle has a bouquet full of fresh, white pulp fruit and tropical fruit scents, in addition to a slightly-spicy vanilla note.

“We are so grateful for Salvatore’s continued commitment to the event as our Honorary Co-Chair and we are honored to serve the fine wines of Il Borro at this very special event for Windsor,” said Lauren Melillo, Windsor’s Director of Events and member of the Windsor Charity Polo Cup Steering Committee.

The wines served at the luncheon will be paired with a menu specially-crafted by Windsor’s Executive Chef Robert Meitzer, featuring passed canapés, a beef tenderloin and crab entrée and a delectable chocolate and raspberry dessert.

In addition to wine, another of Mr. Ferragamo’s passions is polo, and he has served as the Windsor Charity Polo Cup’s Honorary Co-Chair, alongside the Hon. Hilary M. Weston, since its inception in 2012. Luncheon tickets can be purchased for individuals at $300 per ticket or for a table of ten for $3,200. Attendees with luncheon tickets will also have the opportunity to enjoy a music and champagne reception beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the main pavilion.

With several types of accommodations located throughout the village, including luxury villas and elegant suites, Il Borro became a member of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux association in 2012, with Mr. Ferragamo serving as a brand ambassador the following year. Guests of Il Borro can experience unique offerings ranging from cooking and painting classes, tennis and yoga, and regional excursions such as hot air balloon rides and helicopter tours.

    About Windsor

Windsor (WindsorFlorida.com) is a private residential community spanning 425 acres of lush barrier island between the Indian River and the Atlantic Ocean in Vero Beach, Florida. Established in 1989 by Hilary and W. Galen Weston of Toronto, Canada, Windsor was designed by renowned town planners Andrés Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk in the New Urbanism style of residential living, one that offers public and community spaces framed by timeless architecture and landscape design that celebrates its tropical and unspoiled setting. Windsor is comprised of 350 homesites in various styles including village homes, cottages and country estates, all remarkable for their signature Anglo-Caribbean architecture and gracious living.

Windsor provides homeowners privacy and seclusion combined with the finest amenities, exemplary services and sporting activities. Members enjoy an 18-hole links-style golf course, Har-Tru tennis courts, an Equestrian Centre, full-sized polo field, over four miles of riding trails, a fully equipped Fitness Centre, and Gun Club.  The Clubhouse, with interiors designed by Yabu Pushelberg, is a favorite gathering place much like the Beach Club which features private cabanas, its own restaurant, a pool-side Cabana Bar and 25-metre swimming pool.  Windsor is also known for its art gallery featuring a revolving series of world-class exhibitions, and a Town Hall, which serves as a chapel and a venue for weddings, concerts and lectures.

Windsor Founders, Galen and Hilary Weston hosted a VIP weekend to celebrate the opening of Making Meaning, an exhibition by the internationally acclaimed British artist Grayson Perry RA at The Gallery at Windsor, Vero Beach, Florida. The exhibition, which runs until 27 April 2018, launches a new three-year curatorial partnership between The Gallery and the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

The guest list included high society and art world elite, including Royal Academy President Christopher Le Brun, Royal Academy Artistic Director Tim Marlow, Brooklyn Museum Board Vice Chair Stephanie Ingrassia, interior designer Alessandra Branca, Canadian television presenter Valerie Pringle, director of Victoria Miro Oliver Miro, Dali Museum Board Chair Karen Lang Johnston, writer and editor James Reginato, Executive Director of the Vero Beach Museum of Art Brady Roberts, and Helmut and Danna Swarovski of the famed Swarovski crystal family.

Following the Private View of the exhibition, guests attended a conversation between Grayson Perry and Tim Marlow. This was followed by a celebratory dinner hosted by the Westons at their Windsor oceanfront home.

The exhibition offers an overview of Grayson Perry’s work, exploring themes of Britishness, identity, craftsmanship and the art establishment. It includes some of his major works in ceramic, tapestry, sculpture and etching, as well as featuring vignettes from some of the artist’s recent museum shows. The exhibition has been curated by Erin Manns, Director of Exhibitions, Victoria Miro, London. There is fully illustrated catalogue published by Windsor Press and the RA, with an essay by Jenny Uglow and an interview with Grayson Perry by Tim Marlow and Christopher Le Brun.

Turner Prize winner Grayson Perry RA is a vivid chronicler of contemporary life, boldly tackling subjects that are universally human, such as identity, gender, social status, sexuality and religion. Autobiographical references – to the artist’s childhood, his family and his transvestite alter ego Claire – can be read in tandem with questions about décor and decorum, class and taste, and the status of the artist versus that of the artisan. Perry uses the seductive qualities of ceramics and other traditional art forms, including cast iron, bronze, printmaking and tapestry, to make stealthy comments about society, past and present, and its pleasures as well as its injustices and flaws.

Celebrating its 250th year, the RA is an independent institution led by eminent artists and architects; its purpose is to promote the creation, enjoyment and appreciation of the visual arts through exhibitions, education and debate. The three-year curatorial collaboration builds on the exhibition programme of renowned artists who have shown at The Gallery at Windsor, with recent exhibitions of Christopher Le Brun PRA, Peter Doig, Jasper Johns Hon RA, Per Kirkeby Hon RA and Ed Ruscha Hon RA.

About the Royal Academy of Arts

The Royal Academy of Arts was founded by King George III in 1768. It has a unique position in being an independent, privately funded institution led by eminent artists and architects whose purpose is to be a clear, strong voice for art and artists.  Its public programme promotes the creation, enjoyment and appreciation of the visual arts through exhibitions, education and debate.

The RA is undergoing a transformative redevelopment which will be completed in time for its 250th anniversary in 2018. Led by the internationally-acclaimed architect Sir David Chipperfield RA and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the plans will link Burlington House on Piccadilly and Burlington Gardens for the first time, uniting the two-acre site. The redevelopment will also reveal the elements that make the RA unique, sharing with the public the historic treasures in its Collection, the work of its Academicians and the RA Schools, alongside its world-class exhibitions programme. For more information on the RA visit www.royalacademy.org.uk/ra250#video.

The making of these works was chronicled in the first of Perry’s Channel 4 television series, All In the Best Possible Taste, a 2013 Bafta Specialist Factual winner. Perry’s second Bafta-winning television series Who Are You?, about identity, was broadcast in 2014, accompanied by a solo presentation of works at the National Portrait Gallery, London. The series All Man, which considered masculinity, followed in 2016, with Allen Lane publishing the related book The Descent of Man. Perry delivered The Reith Lectures, BBC Radio 4’s annual flagship talk series, in 2013; his ensuing book Playing to the Gallery is published by Penguin. The artist’s A House for Essex, a permanent building designed in collaboration with FAT Architecture, was constructed in the North Essex countryside in 2015.

Winner of the 2003 Turner Prize, Perry was elected a Royal Academician in 2012, and received a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2013; he has been awarded the prestigious appointments of Trustee of the British Museum and Chancellor of the University of the Arts London (both in 2015), and received a RIBA Honorary Fellowship in 2016.

The Windsor Suites are a collection of individually furnished guest accommodations overlooking the gardens of the Village Centre. They serve as a centerpiece of the Windsor private residential club in Vero Beach, Florida, which was established in 1989 by Hilary and W. Galen Weston. Over the past year, Windsor and Mrs. Weston engaged with the renowned designer Alessandra Branca to execute an extensive redesign of the seven suites, Concierge office and surrounding grounds.  Branca, in partnership with Mrs. Weston, gave each suite a distinct design aesthetic, while retaining the original spirit of Windsor. That renovation is now complete.

“The redesign project was quite an undertaking for our entire team, but one I very much enjoyed,” said The Hon. Hilary M. Weston.  “I hope our Members and their family and friends are as pleased with the outcome as I am, and the experience of staying in one of these unique spaces adds to creating wonderful memories at Windsor.”

The Windsor Suites now have updated spaces, including grand combined living and dining areas. Branca reimagined the interiors, inspiring each with a mix of periods, styles, origins and palettes all suited to Windsor’s unique Florida vernacular. Each Suite is bespoke and personal, inspiring guests to feel as though they spent a weekend at a beautiful private home. In keeping with Windsor’s focus on promoting contemporary art, each Suite features works by a collection of contemporary and emerging artists.

“One of my very favorite projects!” says Alessandra Branca. “The Suites were designed with Mrs. Weston very much in the spirit of a delightful guest room in the home of chic, well-travelled and thoughtful friends.”

Branca expanded the number of rooms by creating additional studio suites, while incorporating private outdoor spaces in several. These inviting spaces offer guests an opportunity to experience their own private outdoor Windsor experience.

Each Suite is equipped with custom Siematic kitchens and/or bars, featuring Miele appliances and Cosentino stone counters. The baths have been updated with honed limestone or Ann Sacks marble tiles, with Kallista and Kohler plumbing throughout. New floor surfaces including oak floors in one Suite by Exquisite Flooring, ebonized wood floors or wonderfully patterned honed limestone floors in others.

The fabrics and wallpapers are unique to each Suite, chosen from custom Casa Branca Collection and Brunschwig, Lee Jofa as well as Phillip Jeffries and Donghia wallpapers. The Suites feature a mix of vintage and new furniture. Each Suite has been designed to appeal to a broad mix of discerning American and European Members and guests. The Suites reflect classic and modern Florida living, without straying from the chic interiors and elegant architecture originally created for Windsor more than 25 years ago.

The Windsor Suites are available to Members and their guests and are used for holidays, family reunions, bridal parties, private social events, board meetings and corporate retreats.
